When to Read

This beautiful dua is specifically recommended to be recited after the Tashahhud and before the Salam in the prescribed prayers (Salat). It's a powerful moment when you are closest to Allah, asking Him for three essential things: beneficial knowledge, pure and lawful provision, and deeds that are accepted by Him.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus during your prayer, after completing the Tashahhud. Imagine yourself presenting these requests directly to Allah. Ensure you are in a state of wudu and facing the Qiblah. The act of making dua within prayer elevates its significance, as you are combining supplication with worship.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for well-being in this life and the next. Beneficial knowledge guides us to do good and avoid evil. Pure provision (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that what we consume and use is lawful and blessed, protecting us from ill effects. Accepted deeds are those performed sincerely for Allah's sake and in accordance with His commands, leading to reward in the Hereafter. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often make this supplication, showing its importance.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate in his prayer saying: O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and no one forgives sins except You, so forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me. Verily You are Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none hears prayers except You, so hear me. O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none grants success except You, so grant me success. O Allah, forgive me my faults, my ignorance, my extravagance in my affairs, and what You know better than I. O Allah, forgive me my haste and my delay, my secret and my open, my error and my intentionality; my intentionality is worse than my error. I ask of You the highest paradise and the good the way of life and the good end of life, and I seek refuge in You from the burning (hellfire) and the evil of provisions and the evil of the end of affairs. He then said: (Allahumma inni 'alamta ma fi qalbi fala tas'alni hajati wa lakin as'aluka min fadlik.) I ask You by Your Grace and by Your comprehensive Bounty. And then he asked: (Allahumma inni as'aluka rizqan tayyiban.) O Allah, I ask You for pure provision. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'amalan maqbula.) O Allah, I ask You for accepted deeds. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka hudan tawiyyan.) O Allah, I ask You for guidance that is followed. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an.) O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'amalan salihan.) O Allah, I ask You for righteous deeds. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka shukran 'ala ni'amika.) O Allah, I ask You for gratitude for Your favours. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka husna 'adila.) O Allah, I ask You for a good ending. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka nuran yudhilluni fi dunya wa al-akhirah.) O Allah, I ask You for a light that guides me in this world and the Hereafter. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'afwa wal 'afiyah fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali.) O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion and my worldly affairs, and in my family and my property. And (Allahumma 'a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika.) O Allah, help me to remember You, to give You thanks, and to worship You well. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra ma ta'lamu.) O Allah, I ask You the good that You know. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka fim ma ta'lamu.) O Allah, I ask You concerning what You know. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlika ma la ya'lamu illa anta.) O Allah, I ask You from Your Bounty that which only You know. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra ma sa'alaka minhu nabiyyuka Muhammadun sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.) O Allah, I ask You the good that Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) asked of You. And (Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma ista'adha minhu nabiyyuka Muhammadun sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.) O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil that Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) sought refuge from. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afwa wal 'afiyah fi dunyaya wa akhirati.) O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka an tu'afini fi badani wa an tu'afini fi sam'i wa an tu'afini fi basari.) O Allah, I ask You to grant me well-being in my body, and grant me well-being in my hearing, and grant me well-being in my sight. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka an tu'afini fi dunyaya wa akhirati.) O Allah, I ask You to grant me well-being in my worldly affairs and in my Hereafter. And (Allahumma inni as'aluka an tahfazani min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bika an ughtala min tahti.) O Allah, I ask You to protect me from my front, and from my back, and from my right, and from my left, and from above me. And I seek refuge in You lest I be consumed from beneath me. So, when he finished his supplication, then he concluded his prayer. - Sahih Muslim 975
