Dua for Leaving the Masjid

During Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 465

In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed devil.

Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma a'idhni minash-Shaytanir-rajeem.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when leaving the masjid after completing your prayers or visiting it. It's a moment of transition, moving from the sacred space of worship back into the world, and this supplication helps us carry the blessings of the masjid with us and seek Allah's protection as we re-enter our daily lives.

How to Read

Recite this dua just as you are stepping out of the masjid. Begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah), acknowledge the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with 'was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah' (and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah), then ask Allah directly for His grace, 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik' (O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty). Finally, seek refuge from Shaytan, 'Allahumma a'idhni minash-Shaytanir-rajeem' (O Allah, protect me from the accursed devil).

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request. Firstly, it begins with the remembrance of Allah and His Messenger, setting a positive spiritual tone for departure. The request 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik' is a humble acknowledgment that all provision and success come from Allah's immense grace, encouraging a mindset of seeking sustenance and opportunities only through Him. Most importantly, seeking refuge from the accursed devil ('Allahumma a'idhni minash-Shaytanir-rajeem') is crucial. As we leave the house of Allah, we are entering a world where Shaytan's whispers and temptations are prevalent. This part of the dua is a powerful shield, asking for divine protection against misguidance and evil influences.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: 'When the Prophet ﷺ left the Masjid, he would seek refuge in these words: Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma a'idhni minash-Shaytanir-rajeem.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 465)
