O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from greed, and I seek refuge in You from defeat, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhab il-qabr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat id-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat il-mahya wal-mamat. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hirsi, wa a'udhu bika minal-hazimah, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabat id-dayn, wa a'udhu bika min 'adhab in-nar.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited during the Tashahhud (the final sitting) of the prayer, before the tasleem (salutation). It's a moment when we're closest to Allah, making our plea with utmost sincerity. When our minds wander during salah, we can consciously bring this dua to the forefront of our hearts.
How to Read
Recite this dua with deep reflection and sincerity during the Tashahhud. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's protection from these trials. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah from these specific things, and by extension, this includes seeking His help against anything that distracts us from our worship and draws us away from Him, such as intrusive thoughts. Imagine yourself actively seeking shelter in Allah's vast mercy.
Virtues & Benefits
While this specific dua focuses on seeking refuge from major trials, the act of consciously reciting it during salah, especially when distracted, trains the mind to focus on Allah. It reminds us of the greater struggles and the ultimate refuge we have in Him. By seeking protection from the grave, the Dajjal, and the trials of life and death, we are also indirectly seeking protection from anything that pulls us away from remembering Allah, which is a primary goal of the prayer. It's a practical way to re-center our focus on the purpose of our salah: to connect with our Creator.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from defeat (in battle), and I seek refuge in You from the evil of the Dajjal.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 832)
