Dua for Contentment and Gratitude in Prayer

During Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is highly recommended to be recited after the Tashahhud, just before giving the final salam in prayer. It's a powerful moment when your supplications are closest to being accepted, as you are at the culmination of your worship.

How to Read

After reciting the Tashahhud and Durood in your prayer, pause for a moment. With sincerity and focus, recite this dua. Imagine the words flowing from your heart, seeking these three profound requests from Allah. It’s a personal plea, a moment of deep connection with your Creator, asking for what truly matters in this life and the next.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three of the most important things a believer can ask for: beneficial knowledge that guides you, pure and lawful provision that sustains you, and deeds that are accepted by Allah, bringing you closer to Him. By asking for these, you are essentially praying for a life aligned with Allah's pleasure, fostering a sense of contentment with what He provides and gratitude for His blessings. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, highlighting its comprehensive nature for seeking good in both worldly and religious matters.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah bin Az-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, upon finishing his prayer, would say: 'There is no god but Allah, the One, without any partner. Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and He is Able to do all things. O Allah, there is no warder of that which You have withheld, nor opener of that which You have withheld, nor enlightener of the one whom You have enlightened, nor guide of the one whom You have misguided. We are in need of Your sustenance. O Allah, You and Your Messenger have decreed for us, so let us have the good of it, and it is our hope that You do not make us depend on anyone besides You.' And he would forbid us from saying: 'So-and-so has such-and-such wealth.' And he would say: 'If Allah wills, then so-and-so has one like it.' (The narrator mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ used to teach them this Tashahhud.) He said: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted.)
