Dua for a Blessed Outcome in Prayer (Salat)

During Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 6172

O Allah, forgive me for what I have done ahead [of me] and what I have left behind [me], what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and what I have exceeded in. And forgive me for what You know best about me. You are the One Who sends forth and the One Who delays. There is no god but You.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is ideally recited during the Tashahhud (the final sitting of the prayer) before the tasleem (the concluding salutations of the prayer). It's a moment when one is closest to their Lord, having just completed the acts of worship in prayer, and is directly addressing Allah with pleas for forgiveness and acknowledgment of His might.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely in the Tashahhud, before saying 'As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah' to the right and left. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, acknowledging your shortcomings and seeking Allah's ultimate forgiveness and guidance. Ensure your prayer is performed with humility and attentiveness (khushu').

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a profound request for forgiveness for all our sins, past and future, hidden and apparent, and even those we might not be fully aware of. It acknowledges Allah's absolute power over time and destiny ('the One Who sends forth and the One Who delays'), reinforcing our reliance solely on Him. By making this supplication, we are seeking a blessed completion to our prayer, a cleansing of our record, and a deeper connection with our Creator.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say at the end of his night prayer: 'O Allah, forgive me what I have done ahead and what I have delayed, what I have done secretly and what I have done openly, what I have done extravagantly, and what You know better than I. You are the First and the Last, and there is no god but You.' (Sahih Muslim 6172)
