Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ الْعَدُوِّ، وَشَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt, the dominance of the enemy, and the malice of enemies.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa ghalabatil-'aduwwi wa shamatatil-a'da'i.

When to Read

This powerful dua should be recited when you are facing the need to take on a loan, or when you feel the weight of existing debt. It's also beneficial to make it a regular part of your supplications, especially after your obligatory prayers, to seek Allah's protection against the overwhelming effects of debt, as well as other afflictions.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Focus on the meaning and ask Allah for His assistance in managing your finances, finding a way to repay your debts easily, and being protected from the stress and hardship that debt can bring. It's best recited after finishing your prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the immense burden and stress that debt can impose on an individual and their family. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'burden of debt' (ghalabatid-dayn), we are asking for protection against situations where debt becomes unmanageable, leading to severe distress and hardship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who taught this dua, understood the profound impact that debt can have on a person's peace of mind and overall well-being. Reciting this can bring a sense of relief, knowing you've turned to the One who can alleviate any hardship, and it encourages seeking solutions with reliance on Allah.
