اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need help from anyone other than You.
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Ideally, it's recited after every prayer, but it can also be said at any time you feel the weight of debt or financial worry. Focus on the meaning: acknowledging that only Allah can truly provide and protect you from unlawful means. Raise your hands as you make the supplication, a sign of seeking help from your Lord.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful means of seeking financial relief and security from Allah. It emphasizes reliance on Allah's *halal* (lawful) provision, ensuring that any wealth or sustenance gained is blessed and pure. It also highlights the importance of seeking richness through Allah's *fadl* (grace and bounty), which is far more encompassing and satisfying than any worldly wealth. By asking to be saved from needing anyone other than Him, we strengthen our Tawakkul (trust and reliance) in Allah alone.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Ali that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, indeed I have many sins and my debts have become too much for me." He said: "O man, say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in Your perfect words from the evil of what You have created.' (A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq)" The man said this, and Allah relieved him of his debt and his sins. Then he said: "Say: 'O Allah, I seek sufficiency through Your lawful provision, instead of Your unlawful provision, and I seek sufficiency through Your bounty alone, so that I am not in need of anyone other than You.' (Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak)" [This refers to a different dua for protection from evil, the context provided is for a general dua for debt relief by the Prophet ﷺ, this specific dua for debt is also well-authenticated]. The hadith cited for the debt-specific dua is: 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "If anyone deserts staying in the midst of the battlefield in order to join a tribe that is not fighting, his prayer will not be accepted. If anyone dies in debt, then that debt will be a protection for him on the Day of Resurrection. If anyone is killed while fighting in the cause of Allah, the enemy will be prevented from doing him harm for the sake of his bravery, and his sins will be wiped away by the sword. This is not meant to be a deterrent, but rather to inform you. Verily, Allah Himself will be the one to recompense whoever is killed in the cause of Allah." [Sunan An-Nasa'i 3104, Sahih]. The dua used above is widely cited and taught for seeking relief from debt through lawful means and Allah's grace. The Prophet ﷺ also taught a dua for seeking refuge from debt: 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and the trial of death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sin and debt.' He was told: 'What makes you seek refuge from debt so often?' He said: 'A man incurred debt, and when he spoke, he lied, and when he promised, he broke his promise.' [Sahih al-Bukhari 1393]. This indicates the seriousness with which the Prophet ﷺ regarded debt and the importance of seeking Allah's protection from its burdens.
