Dua for Relief from Oppressive Debt

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5893

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This dua is profoundly beneficial when you are burdened by debt, especially if the creditors are causing undue hardship or pressure. Recite it regularly, particularly after your obligatory prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha), or at any time you feel the weight of your financial obligations and the stress they bring.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, understanding that true relief comes only from Allah. Face the Qiblah (direction of prayer) if possible, raise your hands with palms facing upwards, and supplicate with humility and hope. Believe that Allah will respond and grant you a way out, whether through increased provision, debt forgiveness, or strength to bear the burden.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication seeks Allah's protection from several afflictions, including the crippling effects of debt ('ghalabatid-dayn') and the humiliation of being overcome by people ('qahrir-rijal'). By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we are asking for His divine intervention to alleviate our financial distress, protect us from unfair treatment by creditors, and grant us the ability to overcome our debts through lawful means. It's a powerful reminder that ultimate control rests with Allah, and turning to Him is the surest path to ease.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.)
