Dua for Protection from Debt

Debt
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and from the domination of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often recite. It's beneficial to make it a habit to recite it regularly, especially in the morning and evening. Reciting it when you feel overwhelmed by financial worries or the thought of debt can also be particularly timely.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power to protect you. It's best recited after the obligatory prayers, or at any time you feel the need for Allah's protection. Raise your hands slightly as you make the dua, as is customary.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua specifically seeks Allah's protection from falling into debt ('ghalabatid-dayn'). Debt can be a heavy burden, causing distress and making one dependent on others. By seeking refuge in Allah, we acknowledge our reliance on Him and ask for His divine intervention to prevent us from such a situation, along with protection from other significant burdens like worry, sadness, weakness, laziness, fear, and miserliness.
