اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
"O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace so that I may not need anyone but You."
Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite during times of financial hardship, specifically when you are struggling to find legitimate and permissible ways to settle debts. Recite it after every obligatory prayer, or at any time you feel overwhelmed by your financial obligations and are seeking Allah's guidance towards honest means of earning and repayment.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing that Allah (SWT) is the ultimate provider and the source of all solutions. Raise your hands in supplication, a sign of your dependence on Him. Ensure your intention is pure: to settle debts through lawful means, avoiding anything that displeases Allah. It is also beneficial to reflect on the meaning of the dua as you recite it, internalizing the request for sufficiency through halal means and independence from creation.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah to provide sustenance that is lawful (halal), thereby protecting you from falling into prohibited (haram) sources of income out of desperation. It also seeks to make you independent of others through His bounty, which can manifest as opportunities, assistance, or a general sense of contentment that eases the burden of debt. By focusing on halal provision, you ensure that your efforts to settle debts are pleasing to Allah and lead to lasting peace, rather than temporary relief followed by more trouble.
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: 'My business is not doing well, and my income is insufficient to meet my needs.' He (peace be upon him) said: 'Recite: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.' (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace so that I may not need anyone but You.) So he did that, and Allah (SWT) improved his business and increased his provisions. (Reported by At-Tirmidhi, who said it is Hasan Gharib. It is also reported by Al-Hakim and Al-Bayhaqi.)
