O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and overcome by men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.
When to Read
This is a powerful dua that can be recited at any time, but it is particularly beneficial to make it part of your daily supplications, especially after your obligatory prayers. It's a proactive way to seek Allah's protection from the anxieties of financial hardship and the burden of debt before they even arise.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, understanding the meaning of each phrase. It's best to raise your hands as you would during supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Focus on the meaning and the reliance on Allah (SWT) for protection and provision. Remember that dua is a conversation with your Creator, so speak to Him from your heart.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, seeks protection from four major burdens: worry and grief (often linked to financial stress), helplessness and laziness (which can hinder our efforts to earn a living), cowardice and stinginess (traits that can lead to poor financial decisions or missed opportunities), and most directly, overwhelming debt and being overcome by others. By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we are asking for His divine intervention to safeguard our financial well-being and our dignity, enabling us to live a life free from the debilitating effects of debt and financial subjugation.
