Debt
Hasan HadithJami' At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I do not need to ask anyone besides You.

Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for reciting anytime you feel the weight of debt or financial strain. It's particularly effective after your obligatory prayers, when your heart is most receptive. You can also make it a part of your morning and evening supplications.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on your need for Allah's help. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, and raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. While this specific dua doesn't require a specific number of recitations, repeating it frequently, especially during times of hardship, can bring immense peace and relief.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the core of seeking lawful sustenance and independence from creation. By asking Allah to suffice us with His halal provision, we affirm our trust in Him and distance ourselves from haram means. The second part, asking for enrichment through His grace, ensures that our needs are met without us having to humble ourselves before others. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself taught this dua to his companion Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was facing financial difficulties, highlighting its profound efficacy.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A creditor of mine came to me to demand his debt. I said to him: 'May Allah have mercy on you, I have nothing.' He said: 'Indeed, I will hear your words.' He returned and I said to him: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has taught me some words, if you say them, then even if you had a debt the size of the mountain of Sir, Allah would pay it off for you.' He said: 'What are they?' I said: 'Say: Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I do not need to ask anyone besides You).'
