اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This is a powerful dua taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for seeking financial relief and independence. You can recite it regularly, especially when facing financial hardship, significant debt, or when you want to make dua for a child or loved one struggling with debt. It's a beautiful way to express reliance on Allah for provision and to seek His help in finding lawful means.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and full reliance on Allah. Raise your hands as you do, which is a sign of earnest supplication. It's recommended to say it after your obligatory prayers or during the times when dua is more likely to be answered, such as the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. Having conviction that Allah is the ultimate provider is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive supplication for financial well-being. It asks Allah to provide what is lawful (halal) and to keep us away from unlawful (haram) means of earning or sustenance. It also seeks a richness through Allah's grace that frees us from dependence on anyone other than Him. Reciting it regularly can bring peace of mind and open doors to lawful sustenance, relieving the burden of debt not only for yourself but also by making dua for those you care about.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when Ali mentioned to him that he had a lot of debt. The hadith states: 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have many sins and much debt.' So he said: 'O Ali, shall I not teach you a supplication that, if you say it, Allah will grant you relief from your debt, even if it were as large as Mount Sir, and which would make it easy for you to pay?' Ali said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone but You.'
