اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This powerful dua is specifically taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to seek protection from debt and dependency. Recite it regularly, especially after your obligatory prayers, during times of financial stress, or whenever you feel the weight of debt pressing down on you. It's a plea to Allah for self-sufficiency through permissible means.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and complete reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). Have faith that He, the Most Generous, will provide for you in ways you may not expect. It's best recited with a clear heart, asking Allah to make your earnings and sustenance lawful and to grant you contentment, thereby freeing you from needing to resort to unlawful means or becoming a burden on others.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct supplication for Allah's provision and independence. By asking to be sufficed with lawful means, we are seeking Allah's help to avoid the temptation and pitfalls of unlawful earnings, which often lead to further hardship and displeasure of Allah. The second part, asking to be enriched by Allah's grace, is a request for contentment and freedom from reliance on anyone but Him. This fosters a sense of dignity and reduces the anxiety associated with debt and financial insecurity.

Source & Authentication

‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I cannot afford to pay off my debt, so give me something.' He ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you some words that, if you say them, Allah will, on your behalf, pay off your debt, even if it were as large as Mount Sabir? Then he ﷺ said: Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563).
