O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the domination of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly relevant when you find yourself needing to take out a loan or are already burdened by debt. It's a comprehensive plea for protection against the mental anguish (distress and sorrow), practical difficulties (helplessness and laziness), and character flaws (cowardice and stinginess) that can accompany financial hardship. Recite it with sincerity before making financial decisions, during times of financial strain, or whenever you feel overwhelmed by your obligations.
How to Read
Recite this dua with a sincere heart and a clear intention, seeking Allah's protection and assistance. Raise your hands in supplication, especially during the times when dua is more readily accepted, such as after the obligatory prayers, during the last third of the night, or on Friday. Understand that this is not just about reciting words; it's about connecting with Allah and actively seeking His help in managing your affairs and fulfilling your obligations.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication offers protection from major sources of anxiety and distress related to financial burdens and life's challenges. By seeking refuge in Allah from 'the overwhelming of debt' (غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ - ghalabatid-dayn), you are asking for the strength, wisdom, and means to manage your debts and avoid being crushed by them. It also encompasses seeking protection from 'the domination of men' (قَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ - qahrir-rijal), which can relate to being oppressed or exploited by others, including in financial dealings. It's a holistic dua that addresses both the internal struggles and external pressures associated with debt.
