اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone besides You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This powerful dua is specifically taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for those burdened by debt. It can be recited at any time, but it is particularly potent when you are feeling the weight of financial worry, or when you are making supplication for a brother or sister who you know is struggling with debt. Making dua for others, especially when they are facing hardship, is a beautiful act of worship that reflects the true spirit of our faith.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Imagine Allah (SWT) hearing your plea and responding. It’s recommended to raise your hands slightly in supplication, as the Prophet ﷺ often did. Coupling this dua with consistent effort to improve one's financial situation is key. Remember that sincerity in your intention and unwavering trust in Allah (SWT) are paramount.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive plea for financial well-being through lawful means. It seeks to protect one from unlawful earnings and from the desperation that leads to asking from creation instead of the Creator. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to a companion who was struggling with significant debt, and Allah (SWT) facilitated its repayment. This Hadith highlights that supplication, when sincere and coupled with trust in Allah, can be a powerful tool for overcoming difficulties.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a companion named Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) who complained of having a heavy debt. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the debt that was weighing upon me. He said to me: 'O Ali, shall I not teach you some words that Allah will cause you to pay off your debt, even if it were as large as a mountain? Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak."
