Dua for the Well-being of Step-children and Foster Children

Children
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3825

O Allah, guide my followers and humiliate my enemies, and join me with the highest companions, and assist me with abundant provision, and make my end good, and grant me my request, indeed You are Most Capable of all things.

Allahumma ihdi li shī'atī wa adhillī a'dā'ī, wa alḥiqqnī bil-mala'il-a'lā, wa a'innī bi rizqin wāsi', waj'al 'āqibatī ilā khair, wa a'ṭinī su'lī, innaka 'alā kulli shay'in qadīr.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua, while not specifically for step or foster children, can be adapted for their well-being. Recite it with sincere intention during times of personal supplication, especially after obligatory prayers, during the night, or at any moment you feel connected to Allah. Focus on asking for guidance, protection, and a positive outcome for the children entrusted to your care.

How to Read

Begin by making sincere intention (niyyah) for the well-being of the children. Raise your hands in supplication, as is the Sunnah for many duas. Utter the words with clarity and conviction, reflecting on their meaning. Ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu). It is also recommended to praise Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ before and after the dua.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific phrasing is attributed to the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ supplications in a broader context, the underlying principles of asking Allah for guidance, protection, provision, and a good end are universally beneficial for anyone you supplicate for. For step-children and foster children, this dua can invoke Allah's mercy to guide them, protect them from harm, provide them with a stable and loving environment, and ensure their future is bright. The act of making dua itself is a sign of reliance on Allah and an acknowledgment of His power to change circumstances, bringing immense spiritual comfort to both the supplicator and, through Allah's grace, to the children.

Source & Authentication

The context of this hadith is the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ supplication for his followers and against his enemies. However, the comprehensive nature of the request for guidance, provision, and a good end is applicable to all individuals we care for, including step-children and foster children, when the intention is made clear in our hearts. The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: 'No one is a believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 13). This principle encourages us to extend our heartfelt duas to those under our care.
