أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يُشْفِيَكَ
I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the Mighty Throne, that He may cure you.
As'alu Allāh al-'Aẓīm, Rabb al-'Arsh al-'Aẓīm, an yushfiyak
When to Read
This is a powerful supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite when visiting someone who is ill, including our children. It's best recited with sincerity, placing your hand on the afflicted part of the child's body, if possible. You can also recite this dua for your child's general health and protection, making it a regular part of your supplications.
How to Read
Recite this dua with utmost sincerity and focus, reflecting on Allah's power to heal. It is recommended to place your hand on the area of pain or concern on your child's body while reciting. If that's not feasible, recite it with your hands raised and then blow gently onto your child or into your hands and wipe over them. Repeat it seven times for maximum benefit, as is the practice taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a profound reliance on Allah's mercy and power for healing. By invoking Allah as 'the Mighty, the Lord of the Mighty Throne,' we acknowledge His supreme authority over all creation, including sickness and health. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised that if one supplicates for their brother (or sister, or child) without them knowing, an angel is appointed to him, and he says: 'And may you have the like of it.' (Sahih Muslim 2185). This indicates that such sincere, selfless duas can also bring blessings back to the one making the dua.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to teach them [the Companions] the following supplication in the case of any illness: 'As'alu Allāh al-'Aẓīm, Rabb al-'Arsh al-'Aẓīm, an yushfiyak' (I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the Mighty Throne, that He may cure you). When (you visited) the sick person and sat by his head, and he had come near his end, you should say: 'O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him.' I (meaning: Sa'd) said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this is the phrase used when a person is visited with the plague; how should we supplicate for him?' He said: 'Yes, do supplicate.'
