I seek protection for you both with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every beast, and from every envious eye.
U'eezukumā bikalimātillāhit-tāmmah, min kulli shaitānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli 'ainin lāmmah
When to Read
This dua is recommended to be recited for children, especially at bedtime or whenever you feel they might be vulnerable. It's a beautiful practice to make it a regular part of their routine, like before they sleep or leave the house.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, placing your hands on the child(ren) you are protecting. It's best recited after performing wudu and facing the Qiblah, though its power lies in the sincerity of the reciter. Blow gently on the child after reciting, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his grandsons Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), invokes Allah's complete protection. The 'perfect words of Allah' encompass His divine decree and power, shielding against the unseen evils of devils, harmful creatures ('hammah' can refer to all poisonous creatures and things that harm), and the evil eye ('ainin lāmmah' refers to the malicious stare of envy). It's a powerful spiritual shield for our little ones against all forms of harm, both physical and spiritual.
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) saying: 'I seek protection for you both with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every beast, and from every envious eye.' Then he would say: 'Abraham (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with these same words for Ishmael and Isaac (peace be upon them).'
