اللَّهُمَّ فَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ وَعَلِّمْهُ التَّأْوِيلَ
O Allah, make him comprehend the religion and teach him the interpretation.
Allahumma faqqihhu fid-deen wa 'allimhut-ta'weel
When to Read
This dua is particularly poignant when made for a child who struggles with shyness in social settings, when speaking in front of others, or when they are learning about Islam. It's suitable to recite during the blessed times like the last third of the night, after obligatory prayers, or simply as a continuous supplication for your child's development. You can whisper it to your child, say it after them, or make it in your personal prayers.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, visualizing your child growing in confidence and understanding. Place your hand on your child's head or shoulder as you make the dua, if possible. Consistent recitation is key, just as consistent effort is needed in nurturing a child's growth. Remember that the intention is to seek Allah's blessing for their ability to express themselves clearly and with understanding, not just a superficial confidence.
Virtues & Benefits
While this specific dua was made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) to gain deep understanding of the Deen and its interpretation, its essence can be applied to fostering confidence and clarity in speech for our children. True confidence, especially in conveying knowledge or ideas, stems from understanding and clarity. By asking Allah to grant comprehension, we are seeking the root of confident expression. It also emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge and understanding, which empowers individuals to speak with assurance. The Prophet's ﷺ prayer for Ibn Abbas was so potent that he became a renowned scholar and mufassir (interpreter of the Quran). We pray for a similar benefit for our children, enabling them to speak with wisdom and clarity.
