I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the temptations of devils and from their presence.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa min sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatish-shayateeni wa an yahdurun.
When to Read
This powerful dua is especially relevant when facing times of intense hardship, societal unrest, natural disasters, or any situation that threatens the safety and well-being of our children. It's a shield we can raise for them when external circumstances become frightening. Recite it in the morning and evening, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and whenever you feel a sense of unease about the state of the world and its potential impact on your little ones.
How to Read
This dua is meant to be recited with sincere conviction and a heart full of reliance on Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening. When reciting it for your children, you can blow gently on them after each recitation, imbuing the words with your intention for their protection. It's also beautiful to teach them to recite it themselves as they grow, empowering them to seek Allah's refuge directly.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication offers comprehensive protection by invoking the 'perfect words of Allah.' It encompasses seeking refuge from Allah's own displeasure and punishment, from the general evil that may exist within creation, and specifically from the insidious whispers and presence of Shaytan. When we make this dua for our children, we are essentially asking Allah to place them under His divine guard, shielding them from physical harm and spiritual corruption, especially during tumultuous times.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Abdullah ibn Khubayb narrated that he said: 'One night it rained heavily and it was very dark and I called out: 'O Messenger of Allah, my hands have become cold.' He said: 'O my hand, I have not become cold.' Then he said: 'Say: Say: 'O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what is in it and the goodness of what it was sent with. I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what is in it and the evil of what it was sent with.' Abdullah said: 'Then he said: 'Say: Say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in Your perfect words from the anger of the most Merciful and the punishment of Hell, and from the evil of the servants, and from the whisperings of the devils and their presence.' Abdullah said: 'Then these words became a practice for me.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5088, Sahih Muslim 2708, with slight variations in wording).
