O Allah, unite the hearts of our children with their relatives, and make them uphold their family ties and love one another. Guide them to be a source of joy for their families and clans.
Allahumma allif bayna qulubi awladina wa aqaribihim, waj'alhum yasiluna arhahum wa yuhibbun ba'dahum li ba'din, wahdihim li an yakunu qurrata 'aynin li ahlihim wa 'asha'irihim.
When to Read
This dua can be recited at any time, but it's especially beneficial to make it a habit during these times: after your obligatory prayers (Salah), during the last third of the night when supplications are readily accepted, when you see your children interacting with their relatives, or when you feel a need to strengthen family bonds. It's also wonderful to teach children this dua and encourage them to recite it themselves.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt intention for your children and their extended family. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands as you would during supplication, and focus on the meaning of the words. Emphasize the importance of family ties to your children, explaining that this dua is a way of asking Allah to help them build strong, loving relationships with their aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and other relatives. It’s also a beautiful practice to make dua for other people's children to have good relationships with their families.
Virtues & Benefits
Strengthening family ties is a cornerstone of Islamic society, emphasized by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Upholding these relationships pleases Allah and brings immense blessings. Allah states in the Quran: "And those who join what Allah has ordered to be joined, and fear the Most Merciful and dread the evil reckoning." (Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:21). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain the ties of kinship." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5988). This dua specifically seeks Allah's help in cultivating these vital connections in our children from a young age, fostering a sense of belonging, support, and mutual love that extends beyond the immediate household. It aims to make them conscientious individuals who understand the value of community and kinship.
