Children
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1419

اللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ لِي ذُرِّيَّتِي

O Allah, make my offspring righteous.

Allahumma aslih li dhurriyyati

When to Read

This is a foundational dua for parents. You can recite it any time, but it's especially poignant during the times you make personal supplications, after Salah, or during the blessed nights like Laylat al-Qadr. Think of it as a continuous prayer for your children's well-being, which includes the quality of their social circles. When praying for their righteousness, we implicitly pray that Allah guides them towards good company and keeps them away from harmful influences. This dua can be made before your child is born, during their childhood, and even when they are adults.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us is a sign of humility and earnestness before Allah. Face the Qiblah if possible. Begin with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. Then, make this sincere dua for your children. Repeat it with conviction, visualizing your children surrounded by virtuous friends who inspire them towards goodness. You can place your hand over your heart while making dua, connecting your intention with your supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

A righteous child is a source of continuous reward for the parents, even after their death, as mentioned in Sahih Muslim 1631. By praying for their righteousness, you are asking Allah to grant them the wisdom to choose friends who will remind them of Allah, encourage them in good deeds, and support them in their struggles. Good companionship is a vital part of a person's development, influencing their character, beliefs, and actions. This dua helps in seeking Allah's protection over your children's social lives, ensuring they are blessed with friends who are a positive influence.
