QuranQuran 27:19

My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the company of] Your righteous servants.

*Rabb auzi'ni an ashkura ni'matakal-lati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayya wa an a'mala salihan tarkadahu wa adkhilni bi rahmatika fi 'ibadikas-salihin.*

When to Read

This beautiful supplication, found in Surah An-Naml, is perfect for when you want to instill a sense of gratitude in your children. Recite it with them during quiet moments, perhaps after salah, or when discussing the blessings Allah has bestowed upon your family – from a comfortable home to the gift of health and family itself. It’s a wonderful way to remind them to actively acknowledge and appreciate these gifts.

How to Read

Recite this ayah with sincerity and focus, explaining its meaning to your children in simple terms. Encourage them to repeat it with you, making it a part of their regular duas. The key is to foster a habit of seeking Allah's help in being thankful and righteous, and to make the intention clear that this is a prayer for both oneself and one's children, and a hope for righteous companionship in the Hereafter.

Virtues & Benefits

This ayah is a profound prayer for gratitude and righteous action. By teaching it to our children, we are helping them to: 1. **Develop Shukr (Gratitude):** It directly asks Allah to enable us to be thankful for His blessings upon us and our parents. This cultivates an attitude of contentment and appreciation. 2. **Seek Allah's Pleasure:** The prayer includes asking to do righteous deeds that Allah is pleased with, guiding children towards actions that benefit themselves and others. 3. **Aspire to Righteousness:** It culminates in seeking entry into the company of the righteous in Paradise, giving children a noble aspiration and a vision of true success. 4. **Connect with Family:** The mention of 'my parents' highlights the importance of honoring and being grateful for the blessings they bring into our lives. As Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, 'The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most regular and constant ones, even though they were small.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6464). Making this dua a regular practice, even in its simplicity, brings continuous blessings.
