O Allah! Guide my child (boy), make him pious and pure, grant me his obedience, and make him a blessing upon me and upon the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.
Allahumma ihdi li ghulami, waj'alhu taqiyyan naqiyyan, warzuqni birrahu, waj'alhu mubarak an 'alayya, wa 'ala ummati Muhammadin sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.
When to Read
This beautiful dua can be recited during the times when supplications are most likely to be accepted, such as after prayers, during the last third of the night, or when making dua for your children in general. It's particularly beneficial to recite it when you observe a need for your child to develop a better sense of respect, whether towards parents, teachers, or elders in the community.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Focus on your child's well-being and their ability to be a source of comfort and good deeds for you. Gently blowing on the child after reciting can be a practice, as it was sometimes done by the Prophet ﷺ for his family when making dua. You can also place your hand on the child's head while supplicating.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for a child's spiritual and moral development. By asking Allah to guide them, make them pious and pure, and grant you their obedience (birr), you are seeking for them to become righteous individuals. Their obedience is not just about following commands, but about honoring you and treating you with kindness and respect, which is a great reward in itself. Furthermore, asking for them to be a blessing for you and the entire Ummah elevates the dua beyond personal gain, aiming for them to be beneficial contributors to society.
