My Lord, grant me from the righteous [offspring].
Rabbi habli minas-saliheen
When to Read
This is the foundational dua made by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he was asking Allah for righteous children. We can make this dua at any time, especially when thinking about our children's future and their connection to Islam. It's especially poignant when praying for their upbringing, during times of difficulty, or simply as a regular part of our supplications after salah or during the blessed hours of the night.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing that Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) will accept it. You can recite it during your personal supplications (dua), after completing your obligatory prayers, or at any moment you feel connected to your Lord. It's also beautiful to teach this ayah to your children and encourage them to recite it for themselves as they grow.
Virtues & Benefits
Making dua for righteous offspring is a blessed act that continues to benefit the parents even after their passing. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When a person dies, all their deeds end except for three: a sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity), beneficial knowledge which is taught, or a righteous child who prays for them.' (Sahih Muslim 1631). This dua is a direct request for children who will be a source of goodness in this life and the next, embodying truth and justice in their character and actions.
