In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahi-lladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited by parents for their children, especially when they are feeling scared or anxious. It's a beautiful practice to say this before they go to sleep, before they face a new or challenging situation, or simply as a protective shield throughout the day. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua for general protection, and its encompassing nature makes it perfect for safeguarding children against anxieties and fears.

How to Read

Ideally, a parent or guardian should place their hand on the child's forehead or chest while reciting this dua. It’s recommended to say it three times with sincerity and conviction. While reciting, one should focus on the meaning of the words, truly entrusting the child's well-being to Allah's protection. Making dua is an act of worship, so approaching it with a humble heart and clear intention is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound shield from all harm, both physical and spiritual. By reciting it, we invoke Allah's name, which carries immense power and protection. It instills a sense of security in children, reminding them that their ultimate refuge is Allah. It's a way to teach them to rely on their Creator from a young age, fostering trust and reducing their reliance on worldly means for comfort. The Prophet ﷺ himself emphasized the great virtue of this supplication, stating that whoever recites it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity until the evening, and whoever recites it in the evening will not be afflicted until the morning (Sunan Abi Dawud 3866).
