Dua for Children to be Brave and Courageous

Children
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 777

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite for children, especially when they are facing a new challenge, starting school, or entering a situation that requires them to be brave. It can be recited in the morning as they prepare for their day, or before a specific event that might cause them apprehension. We can teach our children to say this dua themselves, or recite it for them with sincerity.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, picturing your child embodying the courage and strength you are asking Allah for. You can place your hand on their head while reciting or blow gently on them afterwards (as the Prophet ﷺ did with some duas). It's also beneficial to make this a habit, so the child internalizes the connection between seeking Allah's help and finding inner strength.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific wording is for beneficial knowledge, provision, and accepted deeds, the act of making dua itself fosters reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). By asking Allah directly for courage, we are teaching our children that true bravery comes from Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that whoever seeks independence, Allah will make him independent. Whoever seeks contentment, Allah will make him contented. And whoever seeks bravery, Allah will make him brave. (Sahih al-Bukhari 6470). This highlights that courage is a quality Allah bestows upon those who earnestly seek it from Him.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say in the morning: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is useful, sustenance that is pure, and deeds that are accepted.' (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan).
