When to Read

This powerful dua is excellent for reciting for your children, especially when they are outdoors, traveling, or in any situation where they might be exposed to potential harm, including from animals. You can recite it for them before they go to sleep, before they leave the house, or even whisper it to them if you sense any fear or danger.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and complete trust in Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that perfect words offer perfect refuge. Make sure to blow gently onto your child after reciting, as this was a practice of the Prophet ﷺ for seeking protection for himself and others. You can also place your hand on your child's forehead or chest while reciting.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words is a profound act of worship and a means of invoking His direct protection. This dua is not limited to wild animals but encompasses all forms of creation and their potential evils. By teaching our children to recite this, we instill in them the importance of relying on Allah (Tawakkul) and seeking His shield against all adversities. The Prophet ﷺ himself used this dua for protection, showing its efficacy and comprehensive nature.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what have I encountered from the scorpion that stung me last night?' He said: 'If you said, when evening came: A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), then no harm would have come to you.' He said: 'So I said it to the companions, and they recited it that night and no harm came to them.'
