O Allah, grant him wisdom and understanding in religion, make him firm on the straight path, teach him interpretation (of the Quran and Sunnah), increase him in guidance, faith, and certainty, and protect him from all evil.
Allahumma 'allimhu al-hikmata wa fiqha fid-deen, wa thabbit'hu 'alas-siratil-mustaqeem, wa 'allimhu at-ta'weela, wa zidhu hudan wa imanan wa yaqeena, waj'alhu saliman min kulli soo'.
When to Read
This dua can be made anytime, but it's particularly beautiful to recite when your child is young, during times of supplication like after salah, during Ramadan, or when making sincere du'a for their future. You can also say it while holding your child or after teaching them something about Islam.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and conviction, looking towards the Qiblah if possible. You can raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet ﷺ did. Visualize your child growing up to love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, striving to follow their teachings. It's also beneficial to say this for your children regularly, not just once.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua aims to instill the foundational elements of faith and practice in a child from a young age. By asking for wisdom, understanding of the Deen, firmness on the straight path, and increase in guidance, faith, and certainty, we are asking Allah to cultivate a deep-rooted connection to Islam within them. This naturally leads to a love for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as he is the embodiment of Islamic teachings and the best example for us. A child who loves the Prophet ﷺ will naturally want to emulate him and learn from his Sunnah.
