Children
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 3122

O Allah, grant my soul its taqwa (consciousness of You), and purify it, for You are the Best Purifier. You are its Guardian and its Master.

Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkaha, anta khayru man zakkaha, anta waliyyuha wa mawlaha

When to Read

This is a beautiful, comprehensive dua that can be made for your children at any time. It's particularly impactful after Salah, during the night, or whenever you are making personal supplication. Imagine holding your child, or even just thinking of them as you make this prayer for their inner spiritual well-being. We can make it a habit to say this daily, especially during times of focus like after Fajr or before bed.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and conviction, visualizing your child growing into a God-conscious individual. You can say it aloud while supplicating for them, or even gently whisper it to them while making gentle physical contact like placing your hand on their head or shoulder. The key is the intention and the heartfelt request to Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to bestow the most crucial spiritual quality: taqwa. Taqwa is the awareness of Allah in all aspects of life, leading to a life guided by divine principles. By asking Allah to purify their souls, we are seeking His help in developing their character and shielding them from negative influences. This supplication is a powerful way to invest in your child's deen, ensuring that their worldly pursuits are balanced with a strong connection to their Creator. As Allah Himself says in the Quran, 'And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.' (Surah At-Talaq 65:2-3), highlighting the immense benefits of taqwa.

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkaha, anta khayru man zakkaha, anta waliyyuha wa mawlaha' (O Allah, grant my soul its taqwa, and purify it, for You are the Best Purifier. You are its Guardian and its Master).
