رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [also] from my offspring. Our Lord, and accept [this] invocation.
Rabbi ij'alni muqimaṣ-ṣalati wa min dhurriyyati Rabbana wa taqabbal du'a'i
When to Read
This powerful dua from Surah Ibrahim is for all parents seeking righteousness for themselves and their descendants. You can recite it during your daily prayers, particularly after the obligatory salah, or during the blessed times like the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. Make it a consistent part of your supplications, especially when you see your children exhibiting even the slightest signs of pride or when you simply wish to nurture their character.
How to Read
With sincere intention and heartfelt conviction, raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Focus on the meaning of the words, visualizing your children growing into humble, God-conscious individuals. Utter the words clearly and with reverence, seeking Allah's help in shaping their hearts. You can also blow gently onto your children after reciting this dua, as it was a practice mentioned in relation to other duas for protection.
Virtues & Benefits
This verse directly addresses the core of righteous offspring by asking Allah to make us and them establishers of prayer. Prayer is a cornerstone of Islam, and its practice instills discipline, remembrance of Allah, and a constant need for His guidance. By extension, this dua seeks for our children to embody the opposite of arrogance: submission to Allah. When children are connected to their Creator through prayer, they are less likely to develop pride, as they recognize their dependence on Him and the blessings He bestows. This dua is a proactive measure against the destructive trait of arrogance, which the Quran warns us against: "Indeed, Allah does not like whoever is arrogant and boastful" (Luqman 31:18).
