I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every envious evil eye.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah
When to Read
This powerful dua is incredibly relevant for parents concerned about the subtle influences of modern entertainment, whether it's online content, certain TV shows, or video games. Recite it daily for your children, especially when they are engaging with screens or any form of media that might expose them to inappropriate ideas, imagery, or harmful messages. You can also say it before they go to sleep, asking Allah to protect their hearts and minds through the night.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing in the power of Allah's words. It is recommended to place your hand on your child's head or chest while reciting it, or blow gently on them after reciting, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did for his grandchildren Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them). You can also teach this dua to your children so they can start reciting it for themselves as they grow older.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers comprehensive protection through Allah's perfect words. It shields against the whispers of Shaitan (Satan), who often uses entertainment as a tool to misguide us, and against harmful influences ('ayn lammah) which can encompass various forms of negative energy, envy, or bad luck stemming from unsuitable content. By reciting this, we are actively seeking Allah's shield for our children's innate purity and well-being.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) by reciting: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in Your perfect words from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.' He would then say: 'Thus, your father Ibrahim used to seek refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac with a similar invocation.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3371)
