Children
Sahih HadithBook of Prophets 3371

I seek refuge for you both in the Perfect Words of Allah, from every devil and every harmful creature, and from every evil eye.

U'eedhukumaa bikalimaatillahit-tammah, min kulli shaytaanin wa haammah, wa min kulli 'aynin laammah.

When to Read

The Prophet ﷺ would recite this powerful dua for his grandsons, Hasan and Husain, embodying a parent's deepest prayer for their child's safety. For us, reciting this dua for our children is an act of deep love and reliance on Allah. You can make this dua for your children daily: in the mornings as they begin their day, in the evenings before they sleep, or whenever you feel concern for their well-being. It's a shield that you can continuously invoke over them, seeking Allah's protection throughout their day.

How to Read

When you recite this dua, your intention is key. You are asking Allah directly to protect your child. While the Prophet ﷺ recited it for them, you can also place your hand gently on your child's head or chest, or simply recite it over them with sincerity in your heart. If your children are old enough to understand, teach them to say 'Ameen' after you, joining in the prayer. This isn't a mere chant; it's a heartfelt plea to Allah, seeking His perfect protection for your beloved child.

Virtues & Benefits

This specific dua carries immense blessings because it was the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and even Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) before him. When you recite it, you are invoking Allah's perfect words, which are an impenetrable shield. It offers comprehensive protection against: * **Shaytan and his whispers:** Shielding your child from evil influences, whispers, and temptations that can lead to bad company or actions that put them in harm's way. * **Harmful creatures (`Haammah`):** This broadly includes anything that can cause physical or emotional distress, whether from insects, animals, or even humans with ill intent. * **The evil eye (`Aynin Laammah`):** A potent force that can cause illness, misfortune, or harm, often stemming from envy or even unintentional admiration without proper remembrance of Allah. By reciting this, you entrust your child's safety to the One who is the ultimate Protector, bringing peace to your heart and Allah's blessing upon your child.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain by saying: أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لاَمَّةٍ (I seek refuge for you both in the Perfect Words of Allah, from every devil and every harmful creature, and from every evil eye.) He then added, 'Your father (i.e. Abraham) used to seek refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac with these very words.'
