Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the subduing of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by family disputes, the emotional toll they take, and the helplessness that can accompany them. It's particularly potent when facing conflict, before attempting to mediate, or when you simply need inner peace to deal with the situation.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Utter the words with sincerity and conviction, focusing on seeking Allah's protection. Repeat it multiple times, especially during the times when duas are more likely to be answered, such as after obligatory prayers or during the last third of the night.

Virtues & Benefits

This profound dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, directly addresses the core issues that fuel anxiety during disagreements: emotional distress (anxiety and sorrow), lack of capability (incapacity and laziness), and fear or pressure (cowardice and the burden of debt and being overpowered by men). By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we ask for the inner strength, wisdom, and resilience needed to navigate difficult family dynamics with patience and grace. It fosters a reliance on Allah, reminding us that true strength comes from Him.
