After her beloved husband, Abu Salamah, passed away, she recited this dua, even while thinking, 'Who could be better than Abu Salamah?' Yet, Allah, in His boundless wisdom, answered her plea by making her the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, "There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and says what Allah has commanded him: > **Arabic:** إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ آجِرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَاخْلُفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا > > **Translation:** 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and compensate me with something better.' > > **Transliteration:** *Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma'jurni fi musibati, wakhluf li khayran minha.* > > — Sahih Muslim 918 — but Allah will compensate him with something better than it." Umm Salamah said: When Abu Salamah died, I said: Who is better than Abu Salamah, the first Muslim household to emigrate to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)? Then I said it [the dua], and Allah compensated me with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
