Dua for Inner Peace Amidst the Chaos of Travel and Displacement

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 2632

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me, behind me, from my right, from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yomini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting when you feel overwhelmed by the uncertainties of travel, such as during long journeys, moving to a new place, or facing unexpected changes in plans. Its request for 'afiyah (well-being/safety) covers all aspects of life, making it ideal for seeking Allah's protection and inner peace amidst any form of displacement or disruption.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere focus and a humble heart. It's best recited in the morning after Fajr prayer, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek Allah's protection at the start of the day. However, its comprehensiveness means it can and should be recited whenever you feel a need for Allah's safeguarding and tranquility, especially when embarking on a journey or facing unsettling circumstances. Imagine Allah's protection enveloping you as you make these supplications.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is incredibly profound because it encapsulates a request for the highest forms of well-being, known as 'afiyah. 'Afiyah means being protected from any harm, whether physical, mental, or spiritual, and is considered one of the greatest blessings a person can be granted in this life and the next. By asking for 'afiyah, we are asking Allah to grant us a state of safety, health, security, and spiritual soundness. This encompasses protection from hardship, illness, trials, and anything that could disrupt our peace and connection with Allah. Seeking refuge in Allah's Magnificence ('azhamah) further strengthens our reliance on Him during times of vulnerability.
