O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries. When to Read

This is a profound supplication that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite when feeling overwhelmed by sadness, worry, or any form of distress. When life's trials make you feel heavy-hearted or impatient, turn to this dua. It's particularly effective when facing situations that might lead to anger, as its core is seeking peace and solace through Allah's Names and Attributes, and the guidance of the Quran.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Understand that you are acknowledging Allah's complete dominion over you, His justice, and His infinite knowledge. The repetition of the phrase "Allahumma inni 'abduk..." emphasizes your complete dependence on Him. Picture the Quran, the night and day, and life itself becoming sources of comfort and light for your heart as you utter these words.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a powerful tool for emotional and spiritual well-being. By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect names and asking for the Quran to be the 'spring' of your heart, you invite tranquility and clarity. It helps in transforming distress into a means of drawing closer to Allah, recognizing His wisdom in every situation, and preventing anger from taking root. The Prophet ﷺ's own practice shows that such comprehensive duas are the best way to seek solace from Allah when troubles arise.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: The one who is afflicted with grief but tells people about it is not considered patient, and the one who hides it is not considered patient. So what do you say? He said: The one who says: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.' Then Allah will remove his grief and replace his sadness with joy. It was said to him: O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words? He said: Yes, it is incumbent upon everyone who hears them to learn them. (Ahmad 1765)
