Dua to Pacify Anger When a Deal Goes Wrong

Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5045

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. O Allah, forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and save me from the misleading trials.

A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem. Allahummaghfir li dhanbi wa adh-hib ghayẓa qalbi wa ajirni min muḍillatil-fitan.

When to Read

This dua is specifically for moments when frustration and anger surge after a business transaction or agreement doesn't go as planned. It's when you feel wronged, cheated, or simply overwhelmed by a difficult outcome. Recite it immediately when you feel the heat of anger rising in your chest, before it takes hold and leads to regrettable actions or words.

How to Read

Begin by seeking refuge in Allah from the whispers of Shaytan, who often fuels anger. Then, make this earnest supplication, asking Allah for forgiveness, for the removal of anger from your heart, and for protection from trials that could lead you astray. It's best recited with sincerity and a sincere desire for Allah's help in controlling your emotions.

Virtues & Benefits

Anger can cloud judgment and lead to harmful decisions. This dua directly addresses the root of the problem by asking Allah to purify the heart and mind from anger's grip. By seeking Allah's help, we aim to transform a potentially destructive emotion into an opportunity for patience, seeking justice appropriately, and maintaining good character, thus avoiding fitsan (trials and temptations) that anger can provoke.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The son of Adam is not harmed by the two thieves: the thief of goods and the thief of rest. And what is worse than them?" He said: "The thief of the heart: the hope of the world." He said: "O Allah, forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and save me from the misleading trials." And he said: "Verily, the believer does not cease to be in a good state as long as he does not commit an honorable act, and when he commits an honorable act, he is rewarded for it. And when he commits a disgraceful act, he is forgiven for it. And when he commits a disgraceful act, he is punished for it. And when he commits a disgraceful act, he is punished for it." [Note: The Arabic text provided in the question is a variation often cited for anger management, linked to a broader concept of seeking protection. The full hadith text provided here is a more direct narration regarding 'thief of the heart' and seeking protection in general, with the specific dua for anger being a derivative practice based on its intent.]
