Dua for Suppressing Anger When Facing Difficult Questions

Anger
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2707

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, and the reversal of the wellness You have granted, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that which incurs Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik

When to Read

This powerful dua is best recited when you feel the heat of anger rising, especially when confronted with challenging, accusatory, or even unfair questions. It's a proactive shield, a moment of seeking divine protection before your reaction causes harm. You can make this dua silently to yourself or whisper it when you are feeling overwhelmed by someone's words and the urge to respond sharply.

How to Read

Make this dua with a sincere heart, truly feeling the need for Allah's protection. Focus on the meaning of the words as you recite them. Even a few moments of focus on seeking refuge in Allah can shift your internal state, giving you the strength to pause, breathe, and choose a better response. It's about turning inwards to Allah before turning outwards with anger.

Virtues & Benefits

Anger, especially when unchecked, can lead to broken relationships, regrets, and even actions that displease Allah. By seeking refuge in Allah from the causes of His displeasure, this dua helps us guard against the destructive consequences of anger. It reminds us that true strength lies in seeking Allah's help to control our impulses and maintain our composure. This practice aligns with the Prophet's ﷺ teachings on patience and forbearance, turning a potentially negative situation into an opportunity for spiritual growth and earning Allah's pleasure.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard some of his companions say: 'O Messenger of Allah, if we were to know what blessings are given to us and what trials befall us, we would certainly do more deeds.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Some people from among you will ask about these things. Allah, the Blessed and High, has stated: 'Verily, when Allah bestowed His favor upon a people, they did not change it (by their ingratitude), until they change what is within themselves.' The Prophet ﷺ also said: 'I seek refuge in Allah from the vicissitudes of circumstances, the torments of the Fire, the worst of what is hidden and the best of what is concealed, and I seek refuge in Allah from the disappearance of Your blessings, and the reversal of the wellness You have granted, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that which incurs Your displeasure.' - Sahih Muslim 2707
