Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5048

O Allah, forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, save me from Shaytan, and protect me from all evil.

Allahummaghfirli dhambi, wa adh-hib ghayza qalbi, wa ajirni minash-shaytan, wa a'idhni min sharri al-jami'

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial when you find yourself stuck in frustrating bureaucratic processes – filling out endless forms, dealing with unhelpful officials, or facing unexpected delays. Recite it before you engage with the situation or whenever you feel the heat of anger rising within you. It's a powerful tool to invoke Allah's help in maintaining composure and seeking His protection from the negative influences that anger can bring.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a calm heart. Focus on each word, understanding its meaning and asking Allah to truly grant you the forgiveness, inner peace, and protection it entails. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly while reciting, as is the practice in supplication, and to face the Qiblah if possible, though this is not a strict condition. Taking a moment to breathe deeply before reciting can also help center yourself.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication addresses several key aspects for managing anger and its consequences. It seeks Allah's forgiveness for sins, recognizing that our shortcomings can sometimes contribute to our irritability. It directly asks Allah to remove the *ghayz* (intense anger) from the heart, seeking inner peace and tranquility. Furthermore, it asks for protection from Shaytan, who often exploits moments of anger to whisper further temptations and negative thoughts. Finally, seeking refuge from 'all evil' encompasses the harmful consequences that can arise from an uncontrolled temper. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a man who asked him for advice on controlling his anger, highlighting its effectiveness for this specific struggle. (Context from the hadith narrative found in Sunan Abi Dawud).

Source & Authentication

Al-Hasan al-Basri narrated that a man said to the Prophet ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah, give me some advice.' He said: 'Do not become angry.' The man repeated his request many times, and he said: 'Do not become angry.' Then he said: 'Say: O Allah, forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, save me from Shaytan, and protect me from all evil.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5048)
