O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend to put Your creation to trial, please take me to Yourself without submitting to that trial. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'lal khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfir li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ilayka ghayra maftun. As'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.
When to Read
This dua is incredibly beneficial when your carefully laid plans are suddenly disrupted, especially by the actions or inactions of others. Whether it's a work project delayed, a family event altered, or a simple outing changed, and you feel frustration or anger rising, this is the perfect time to turn to Allah. Recite it as you feel your patience wearing thin, or even proactively to strengthen yourself against such moments.
How to Read
It's best to recite this dua with sincere intention and a calm heart, even if you are in a situation that is testing your calmness. Raise your hands in supplication if possible, facing the Qiblah. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, asking Allah for the ability to do good, avoid evil, and cultivate a love for Him and what brings you closer to Him. This internal shift helps in external composure.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua helps in several ways. Firstly, it asks for the tawfiq (ability granted by Allah) to perform good deeds and refrain from bad ones, which is the foundation of strong character. Secondly, it seeks forgiveness and mercy, acknowledging our need for Allah's grace. Most importantly for this context, it asks for Allah's love and the love of deeds that draw us nearer to Him. When our hearts are filled with love for Allah and the desire to please Him, minor disruptions caused by others become less significant. It also asks for protection from trials ('fitnah'), which can include the trial of losing one's temper or being negatively influenced by chaotic situations. By focusing on Allah's love, we can find inner peace and the strength to respond with patience and wisdom instead of anger.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Ask Allah for His love and ask for the love of those who love Him, and ask for the love of deeds that will bring you closer to His love. Ask Allah to love you for what you know of goodness, and to love you even if you are not in a state of need, and ask Allah to make you love the love of death and to fear trials when they befall you. And ask Him to let you die in a state of piety and with steadfastness, and O Allah, ask for Your satisfaction and mercy.' (Then he mentioned a similar wording of the dua found above). At-Tirmidhi attributed this hadith to Hasan Gharib. He also mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite this dua.
