Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3892

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the whispers of the devils and from their being present.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayateeni wa an yahdurun.

When to Read

When you feel the heat of anger rising within you, especially during moments of profound loss or grief. This could be after receiving devastating news, during a funeral, or while reflecting on a painful memory. Recite it as soon as you feel the anger building, before it consumes your thoughts and actions.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, understanding that you are seeking Allah's protection from His anger and the evil influences that can exacerbate your own feelings. It's recommended to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening, as a general practice, but it is especially potent when recited in times of specific need like when experiencing anger due to grief. Picture the perfect words of Allah as a shield surrounding you.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication is a safeguard against overwhelming emotions and harmful influences. By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, you are asking for His divine protection from His own displeasure, from the consequences of wrongdoing, and from the machinations of Shaytan, which often whisper thoughts of resentment and anger, particularly during times of distress. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a means of protection, allowing us to maintain composure and seek solace in Allah when facing difficulties, rather than succumbing to destructive anger.
