O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend to try Your creation with a trial, take me to Yourself without being tempted by it. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'lal khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfira li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ilayha ghayra muftatenin, wa as'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each phrase and ask Allah to grant you these qualities and protection. It can be recited any time, but often after obligatory prayers or during the times when dua is more readily accepted (like between the adhan and iqamah, or in the last third of the night).
Virtues & Benefits
While this specific dua doesn't directly mention protection from anger, it encompasses seeking the ability to do good, abandon evil, and attain Allah's love. By cultivating these qualities, a person naturally builds a character that is less prone to anger. Controlling anger is a sign of strong faith and a path to Allah's pleasure. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The strong person is not the one who can overpower others, but the strong person is the one who controls himself when angry." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5204). This dua helps in building that inner strength.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ taught me a comprehensive supplication (dua) in which he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness (contentment).' In another narration, it is mentioned: 'O Allah, I ask You for the (fulfillment of) good deeds, abandoning evil deeds, love for the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me. If You intend to try Your creation with a trial, take me to Yourself without being tempted by it. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.'
