Dua for Patience When Facing Provocation

Anger
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2713

O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of all things, the One who causes the grain and the date-stone to split and sprout, the Revealer of the Tawrah, the Injil, and the Furqan. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things which You are seizing by their forelocks. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You. You are the Last, and there is nothing after You. You are the Evident, and there is nothing above You. You are the Hidden, and there is nothing nearer than You. Pay off my debt and relieve me from poverty.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati wa Rabba al-ard, Rabba kulli shay', faliq al-habbi wa an-nawa, wa munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injili wal-Furqan. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun bi-nasiyatih. Allahumma anta al-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay', wa anta al-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay', wa anta az-Zahiru falaysa fawqaka shay', wa anta al-Batinu falaysa dunaka shay'. Iqdi 'anni ad-dayna wa aghnini min al-faqr.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is excellent to recite when feeling overwhelmed, provoked, or when facing difficult circumstances that test one's patience and resolve. It's particularly useful when dealing with people or situations that cause anger or distress, as it seeks Allah's refuge and help in overcoming them. It can be recited at any time, but it's especially beneficial when one feels their patience waning.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a heartfelt plea to Allah. It's best to recite it with full conviction, understanding the meaning of each phrase. While not tied to a specific number of recitations, repeating it when provocation arises can be very effective. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often turn to dua in times of difficulty, and this supplication encompasses seeking refuge from all evils and asking for Allah's provision and relief.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua offers immense benefits. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'evil of all things which You are seizing by their forelocks,' one is essentially entrusting all matters, even those seemingly beyond control, to Allah's ultimate power. It helps to calm the heart and mind, fostering patience and resilience in the face of provocation. The inclusion of asking Allah to 'pay off my debt and relieve me from poverty' shows that this dua also addresses material worries, demonstrating the holistic nature of seeking Allah's help. Reciting it can bring a sense of peace, reduce anxiety, and strengthen one's reliance on Allah (Tawakkul).
