Dua for Patience and Forgiveness When Remembering the Anger of the Deceased

Anger
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 919

O Allah, forgive [so-and-so], and raise his rank among those who are guided. And leave successors for him among those who remain. And forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. And make his grave spacious and fill it with light for him.

Allahumma-ghfir li [fulan], wa-rfa' darajatahu fil-mahdiyyin, wa-khlufhu fi 'aqibihi fil-ghabirin, wa-ghfir lana wa lahu ya Rabb al-'alamin, wa-fsah lahu fi qabrihi, wa nawwir lahu fih.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt intention for the deceased. It is ideally recited while placing your hand on your chest, focusing on the person you are remembering and their state. The key is the intention of seeking Allah's mercy for them and asking for ease for yourself in dealing with the memory of their anger, transforming it into a prayer for forgiveness and peace.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive prayer for the deceased, seeking Allah's forgiveness, elevating their status, and ensuring a good legacy. For the one reciting it, it offers a way to process difficult memories of a loved one's anger by turning towards a prayer for their mercy and our own spiritual growth. It embodies the Islamic principle of remembering the deceased with supplication, as our prayers can benefit them even after their passing.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led the funeral prayer, he would supplicate: 'O Allah, forgive [the deceased], and raise his rank among those who are guided. And leave successors for him among those who remain. And forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. And make his grave spacious and fill it with light for him.' (Sahih Muslim 919). The name 'fulan' is a placeholder, and the person making the dua should insert the name of the deceased.
