Virtues & Benefits
While this specific dua isn't directly about controlling anger, its comprehensive nature addresses the underlying needs that can lead to losing one's temper. By seeking Allah's forgiveness, we purify our hearts. By asking for mercy, we invite compassion, both from Allah and for ourselves and our children. Guidance helps us make the right choices, protection shields us from the whispers of Shaytan that fuel anger, and provision can ease worldly burdens that contribute to stress. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive supplication as a means for seeking comprehensive good from Allah, which inherently includes the ability to manage our emotions and respond to our children with kindness.

Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Cleaning is half of faith. 'Al-Hamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale. 'SubhanAllah' (Glory be to Allah) and 'Al-Hamdulillah' fill what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is light, charity is proof, patience is illumination, and the Qur'an is evidence for or against you. All people wake up early doing business, selling their souls, either freeing them or destroying them. It is recommended to seek refuge in Allah by saying: 'Allahumma-ghfir li, wa-rhamni, wa-hdini, wa 'afini, wa-rzquni' (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, guide me, protect me, and provide for me).
