Dua for Inner Peace and Restraint When Witnessing Public Disrespect Towards Religion

Anger
Sahih HadithAdab al-Mufrad 1188

O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my property. O Allah, conceal my weaknesses and secure me from my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. And I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal 'afiyata fi deeni wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa aamin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi, wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'adheematika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is incredibly valuable when you witness or experience disrespect towards Islam, especially in public. It's a moment when emotions can easily run high, and our faith calls for patience and controlled reaction. Reciting this prayer helps you seek Allah's protection and inner strength to maintain your composure, respond with wisdom if needed, and avoid falling into anger or despair. It's also a general prayer for protection and well-being that can be recited daily.

How to Read

This is a profound supplication that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. It's best to recite it with sincere conviction, understanding the meaning behind each phrase. Raise your hands as you would in any dua, facing the Qiblah if possible. Focus on the requests you are making to Allah, seeking His direct intervention for your spiritual and worldly well-being, and His protection from all harm, seen and unseen.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against various forms of harm, both spiritual and physical. It encompasses seeking Allah's 'Afw (pardon) for our shortcomings and 'Afiyah (well-being), which is a state of being safe from all afflictions. By asking Allah to conceal our faults ('awrat) and secure us from our fears (raw'at), we are asking for complete inner and outer security. The specific requests for protection from all directions, including from beneath, highlight the comprehensive nature of Allah's safeguard when we turn to Him. It fosters patience and a measured response when faced with provocation, aligning our actions with Islamic etiquette and preventing us from reacting impulsively.
