O Allah, I ask You for the ability to do good deeds, and to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor, and for You to forgive me and have mercy upon me. And if You intend to put a people to trial, then take me to Yourself without putting me to trial. And I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'lal khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfira li, wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fitnatan fi qawmin fa tawaffani ghayra maftun. Wa as'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful dua encapsulates a holistic request for a righteous life. By asking for the ability to do good and avoid evil, and for love of the poor, we are essentially asking for the qualities that foster patience and compassion. The request to be taken before a trial strikes is a plea for steadfastness. Most importantly, asking for Allah's love, the love of those who love Him, and the love of deeds that bring one closer to Him, is the ultimate desire. When our hearts are filled with Allah's love, controlling anger becomes a natural consequence of seeking His pleasure. As the Quran states: "...And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect." (Surah At-Talaq 65:2-3). This dua, by seeking Allah's love and guidance, is a direct path to such divine provision and ease in overcoming challenges like anger.

Narrated by 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: "Allahumma inni as'aluka al-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina." (O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness). He also narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: "Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'lal khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfira li, wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fitnatan fi qawmin fa tawaffani ghayra maftun.
