I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. Hudhaifah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'I know a statement, if it were said by the one who is angry, what he feels would disappear. (That statement is:) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.'
*A'udhu billahi minash-shaitanir-rajeem. Hadathana Abu Bakrin ibnu Abi Shaibata, hadathana Abdullah ibnu Idris, 'an Sufyana, 'an Salamata ibni Kuhailin, 'an Abil Tufaili, 'an Abi Suraihata Hudhayfata ibnil Yaman (radiyallahu 'anhu) qala qala Rasulullahi (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam): 'Inni la a'lamu kalimatallaw qalaha lahdhaba ma yajiduhu law qalaha ghadaban.' Qala: 'A'udhu billahi minash-shaitanir-rajeem.'*
When to Read
This supplication is specifically recommended when you feel the heat of anger rising within you. It's a powerful tool to immediately counter the negative influence of Shaytan, who often fuels anger and leads us to say or do things we regret.
How to Read
When you feel anger taking hold, consciously pause. Take a deep breath, and then firmly recite 'A'udhu billahi minash-shaitanir-rajeem'. The intention behind it is crucial: you are actively seeking Allah's protection from the whispers and instigations of the accursed devil, who thrives on discord and negative emotions.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit is the immediate cooling of anger and the prevention of regrettable actions or words. It helps you regain control over your emotions by invoking Allah's protection. Shaytan's influence is a major contributor to uncontrolled anger, and this dua directly addresses that source of instigation, as the Prophet ﷺ himself indicated it would make 'what he feels disappear'.
